The area of the excavations in Pompeii can be easily reached thanks to public transports, for example circumvesuviana trains (http://www.vesuviana.it/Reteeorari).
You can use the highway Napoli-Salerno (http://www.autostrade.it/autostrade/rete.do?op=caselli&cod=A03) to reach the excavations with your car or by taxi.
